The Nigerian Navy intercepted a vessel carrying oil and arrested 11 crew members on February 7, 2024. Subsequently, the suspects were handed over to the EFCC by the Nigerian Navy, NNS Beecroft, Apapa, Lagos.
In a statement released on Saturday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewole confirmed that the commission has initiated an investigation into the suspected oil theft involving the vessel MT SAISNIL II.
Oyewole stated that the suspects are allegedly involved in illegal oil bunkering and Automatic Identification System (AIS) infractions at the Abo Oilfield in the Ogogoro Community of Ondo State.
The EFCC is currently conducting thorough investigations into the matter through its operatives at the Lagos Command. Upon the conclusion of the investigations, the suspects will be prosecuted and brought before the court to face appropriate charges.
