President Bola Tinubu has been asked to immediately sack the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun over the brutal killing of some of the hunger protesters nationwide.
One of the lead organizers of the #EndBadGovernance protests for the Take It Back Movement, (TIB) had made the demand known in a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Sanyaolu Juwon.
In the statement, the TIB organizers had accused officers of the Nigeria Police Force of killing at least 40 demonstrators during the protests.
The statement also claimed that about 1,000 persons protesting against the high cost of living, were now detained in some states.
Recall that the nationwide demonstration, which kickstarted on August 1 and expected to end today, August 10, was allegedly widely hijacked by criminal elements in certain states.
In the process of using force to disperse the protesters, some Nigerians were killed by the security operatives charged with protecting them.
What They’re Saying
“We demand the immediate sack of the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, over the death of close to 40 protesters who were served bullets because they demanded bread.
“So far, over 1000 people have been remanded over the protest against hunger. At least 632 protesters have been remanded in Kano, while over 109 were remanded in Sokoto prison.
“The police must cease the use of teargas and live ammunition against peaceful protesters.” It concluded.
