The Federal Government has revealed plans to create a national data bank to improve efficiency and decision-making in Nigeria’s transportation sector. Dr. Segun Obayendo, Chairman of the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration (CIOTA), shared this information during a press conference before the 6th National Transport Conference in Abuja.
The national data bank will act as a central hub for gathering, analysing, and sharing transportation data. This will help in making better policies and more effective decisions across the sector. Nigeria’s roads and highways are very important, carrying about 90% of all passenger and freight traffic in the country.
The objectives of the data bank include:
- Keeping track of transportation and logistics operations in Nigeria
- Giving useful information about transportation to important groups, like the Federal Ministry of Transport and its related organizations
- Providing data analysis help to make better plans and decisions based on facts
