Feyenoord have dismissed Robin van Persie after just 15 months as manager, ending the ex-striker’s first spell in the top job at his childhood club.
The former Arsenal man was brought in February 2025 and took Feyenoord to a second-placed finish in Eredivisie 2025-26, but ultimately an indifferent showing in Europe and faltering form throughout the league cost the Dutchman his job.
Devy Rigaux, technical director for the club, hailed Van Persie’s efforts through a ‘difficult season’ and the fact they achieved Champions League qualification, but felt that domestic form had suffered.

Despite a 19-point gap to PSV Eindhoven in the league, he was given poor performances in Europe as Fenerbahce knocked Feyenoord out in the qualifying stages before they were a dismal 29th in Europa League group stages. He oversaw 30 wins in 58 games as manager, and previously gained experience at both Feyenoord’s academy and Heerenveen.
A club statement has declared they will be looking for a new head coach for the 2026-27 campaign in their attempt to ‘rebuild’.
