Tickets for the FIFA World Cup 2026 have exploded in price on the official FIFA resale platform, with listings for several events skyrocketing to many times their original face value just mere weeks after the main sales phase ended.
Wednesday’s Azteca Stadium opener, Mexico vs South Africa, a three-tier stage ticket was listed at $5, 324, category three being the highest-tier, whereas the initial price was $895. Similarly, a category three ticket for the final in East Rutherford, New Jersey was listed for $143, 750, more than 40 times the first $3, 450. The cheapest ticket to the final was $9, 775.

A few pricing drops have been noted, such as an Austria versus Jordan group-stage ticket in California selling at a price lower than face value. Nevertheless, the fans and supporters’ groups have denounced the excessively high resale market.
FIFA explained that they only provide the platform and charge a 15% service fee; the sellers decide the prices. The number of ticket requests reached 500 million, showing that demand at a global level was extremely high.
The last sales phase is scheduled from April until the end of the tournament on a first-come basis; however, debate is still ongoing on the issues of affordability and supporter access.
