Sergio Rico, the talented goalkeeper for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), is making a remarkable recovery from a traumatic brain injury, according to a recent report from the Virgen del Rocio hospital in Seville. The news brings relief and hope to fans around the world who have been following his progress.
After a frightening accident involving a horse at a local festival on May 28, the 29-year-old athlete was admitted to the ICU for close monitoring and intensive care. However, after five weeks of dedicated attention from a team of specialists, Rico has now been discharged from the ICU and transferred to a ward for further treatment.
The hospital report stated, “Sergio Rico has been discharged from the ICU… where he was under close surveillance and monitoring during the five weeks he has been cared for by the Intensive Care team, along with other specialists. As of today, he has been admitted to the ward, where he will continue to receive medical and nursing care from another team of specialists at the hospital.”
This update comes as a relief to his loved ones and fans, as Rico had previously been in a coma. Last week, hospital sources revealed that he had regained consciousness and was communicating once again, marking a significant step forward in his recovery journey.
Sergio Rico, a native of Seville, had achieved great success with his hometown club Sevilla, winning the Europa League on two occasions. In 2020, he made a permanent move to Paris Saint-Germain after a successful loan spell. His skills and contributions to the sport have earned him a dedicated following.
Throughout Rico’s challenging ordeal, his wife, Alba Silva, has remained by his side. In a recent interview, she disclosed that she was asleep at the time of the accident and, unfortunately, there were no direct witnesses. Silva expressed her gratitude for the support they have received and mentioned that they are eagerly awaiting the official report for more information.
Positive signs have been observed in Rico’s recovery, and he has been able to communicate with his family members. Silva shared an update, stating, “He is improving. He is communicating. He calls us by name and everything. He knows perfectly who all of us who enter (his room) are and has a great memory.”
The football community has rallied behind Rico, demonstrating their support and solidarity. In their last Ligue 1 game of the season, PSG players wore special shirts featuring an image of his face during their warm-up. Additionally, his name adorned the back of every player’s shirt, signifying their unity and dedication to their teammate’s well-being.
As the world continues to pray for Sergio Rico’s swift recovery, football enthusiasts are also hopeful that this incident will not hinder his future in the sport. Rico’s talent and passion have made him a key figure in the game, and fans eagerly anticipate his return to the pitch, where he can once again showcase his exceptional skills.
