On Tuesday, gunmen assaulted the Kwatas and Daffo communities in Plateau’s Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA), killing seven.
Retired Brig.-Gen. Gakji Shipi, the Special Adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, revealed this to reporters in Jos on Wednesday.
Gakji is also the Coordinator for Operation Rainbow, a state-owned security organisation.
What they’re saying
“We had two distinct attacks yesterday, one in Kwatas and another in Daffo, all in Bokkos.
“So far, seven individuals have been confirmed dead, with others suffering varied degrees of injuries. ”At the moment, normalcy has returned to the areas, but we are still on the trail of those behind this dastardly act and we will not allow them to get away with it,”he said.
Bottom Line
While the restoration of normalcy in the affected areas is a positive development, it’s crucial that the authorities not only track down those responsible but also work towards preventing such incidents in the future.
This includes strengthening community policing, fostering dialogue among conflicting groups, and addressing the root causes of violence, such as competition over resources and historical grievances.
