Manchester City stretched their unbeaten run in the Premier League to a record of 32 with a victory over struggling Southampton. One early goal from Erling Haaland, who scored in just five minutes tussling off Jan Bednarek before poking home Matheus Nunes’s cross from close range, made all the difference.
Nunes almost doubled City’s lead shortly after, with a powerful shot inside the box which just missed the post. Southampton – still without a league win this season – dug in for the rest of the half without creating any real openings against City pressure.

The second half produced more pressure from the hosts, and Phil Foden was not far off, his shot across just wide. Haaland missed two more chances, failing to connect with deliveries from Savinho, but City’s control meant Southampton’s timid attack posed little threat.
In the end, City rather easily earned their 11th victory from the last 15 league matches against Southampton and never looked like being unsettled by any serious chances. While City’s unbeaten run goes on, the reverse certainly does for poor Southampton-pressuring manager Russell Martin, who is in serious jeopardy of becoming the first managerial casualty of the season if their struggles continue.
