Hamas plays victim after firing strikes at Israel

Isreal is already at the wrong side of the international community, and with the recent decision of the world court, Isreal is currently at the wrong side of international law. This is based on its most recent offensive in Rafah which comes after the world court decision for Israel to halt operations in Rafah.

However, it didn’t come unprovoked. Hamas has earlier lauched eight rocket strikes at Israel which the iron Dome had intercepted. Avi Hyman, isreali spokesperson said “Had the iron dome not intercepted them they could have caused mass casualties,”

Hamas is well aware of the world court decision for israel to halt operations in Gaza and two days afterwards, they launched an attack against Israel which israeli forces unfortunately reciprocated. This has led to the recent humanitarian situation in Rafah with many wounded and 45 persons killed.

Now, the entire international community is against israel for the attack. Isreal has received lots of international condemnation regarding this recent attack, which they themselves have considered to be a miscalculation. Isreali forces declared that the attack which killed 45 persons was not intended to cause civilian harm, labelling it a ‘tragic mistake’. Prime minister Netanyahu had earlier said that the attack was precisely targeted at a ‘Hamas compound‘ in Rafah.

How could a precisely targeted attack have resulted in so much civilian death?

I think it’s high time, the international community questions why Hamas hides within its civilian population, why not come out from the civilians and face Israel directly?. Factually speaking, you cannot fire shots and not expect a retaliation, and you cannot hide within civilian population and expect that when there is a retaliation, no civilian will be hurt!

This whole ploy seems like Hamas is using the international community to pressure israel into submission, by making every state anti-israel. Hamas seems to be playing the victim card, while watching the world devour it’s enemy. By making the entire international community to be against Israel, Hamas hopes to weakens Israel’s military and economic strength.

Ireland is currently threatening sanction, Amnesty International has raised their voice to declare that isreal must stop it’s offensive. European Union have also condemned the nation among others.

Now possibly, UN security council will be forced to take measures against israel as a means of enforcing world court judgement on the state, Israel is currently being pressed on every side. While the initiator of the attack is being pitied.

As devastating as the resultant death is, international community needs to consider all sides and point fingers to the appropriate culprits for a proper resolution of the war, rather than try to handicap israel while Hamas maintains its strength. If this balance is not created, I don’t think there can be a resolution of the war as Hamas would most likely want to play on Isreal weakpoint to attack.

Conclusion

The recent attacks in Rafah calls for serious diplomacy aimed at resolution of the war to prevent further loss of lives.

However, resolution must be done on mutual grounds, not pressuring one party as against the other. Currently, Isreal is a victim of Hamas’ dubious scheme to escalate tensions between Isreal and the world at large, which has made the international community to seemingly turn a blind eyes to Hamas antics, making Palestinians pawns on the chessboard.

Going forward, a new strategy must be employed by the international community. There is a need for ‘sane persons’ who have not been influenced by Hamas antics to take care and bring about the singular goal of relieving Palestinians of this suffering.
