The issue of fire incidents, is now rampant in Nigeria, as just yesterday, A shop in Onitsha was also razed down with fire, and the cause of that incident was due to a power surge.
A three-bedroom flat and some shops were gutted by fire following a power surge. Oko Erin, West Local Government Area of Ilorin State.
According to Mr. Hakeem Hassan, the head media of Kwara State Fire service, the incident occurred around 3:24 am, they arrived at the location late, due to the late call by the sympathizer, even though the fire had engulfed the whole building, the firemen were very competent and they were able to put off the fire.
He further said that the area was damped to prevent the fire from spreading. He further revealed that the fire was caused due to a power surge.
“On getting to the scene, we realized that the whole building had been engulfed by the blazing fire due to the late call by the sympathizer.
“Although the conflagration was huge, our firemen were able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and in no time the ravaging inferno was extinguished.
“They also damped the surrounding area to stop the fire from further escalation.
“The leading officer of the firemen crew, who attended to the incident, revealed that the fire was caused due to a power surge,” the statement read.
Electrical appliances in the house or shops must be put off when they are not in use, it’s wrong to leave electrical appliances on, as a fire accident is not a minor incident to joke about. Putting them off will help prevent fire incidents of such nature from happening.
The goods lost in the shop and the rest of the fire is reported to be around 5m.
For some time now, we’ve heard of fire incidents caused by a power surge, it is a prerequisite that everyone takes such preventive measures, to prevent endangering other person’s lives and properties.
This is also a call on every state government, to ensure that the fire service of each state is very functional, and that fire extinguishers are placed in corners of shops and markets.
