In recent news from Kogi State’s elections, there are rumblings about potential tampering with the election results. While this might seem like a typical occurrence during elections, what’s more troubling is the loss of trust in the process. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has adamantly denied any manipulation of the Kogi State Governorship election results through their Results View Portal (IReV).
Despite claims of tampering swirling around, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC’s National Commissioner and Member of the Information and Voter Education Committee, has dismissed these allegations as baseless.
“The media reports suggesting INEC’s tampering with the accredited voter figures in the Kogi Governorship Election results on the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal are entirely without merit,” INEC highlighted in response.
INEC stressed that the most reliable and current data regarding voter accreditation resides within the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). This system is crucial for verifying and accrediting registered voters at various polling units on election day, automatically storing the accreditation details of all voters.
Reflecting on the broader context, despite the years of practice in what we call democracy, true development remains elusive.
