Julián Álvarez to Atlético Madrid on a six-year deal from Manchester City

On Monday, Atlético Madrid formally announced that it signed Julián Álvarez from Manchester City. The Argentine forward has penned a six-year deal that will keep him at the club until 2030. The fans warmed up to their new signing, giving a warm welcome to his new home— “La Araña,” or “The Spider.”.

Álvarez, 24, is a versatile and clinical forward who began his professional career at River Plate in 2018, where he scored 54 goals and created 31 assists in 122 appearances. He was also the top scorer in the league in the Argentine league during the 2020/21 season.

A statement from Atlético Madrid confirmed Álvarez’s sterling achievement, having done quite well with Manchester City by winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the European Super Cup, and the Club World Cup. Álvarez made 103 appearances over the past two seasons in England and scored 36 times with 18 assists.

The Argentine international also boasts a distinguished career with the national side, winning Copa América, Conmebol-UEFA Champions Cup, and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Álvarez has made 36 appearances for Argentina, scoring nine times.

Atlético Madrid fans can expect a energetic, seasoned campaigner while Álvarez embarks upon a new chapter under Diego Simeone in La Liga.
