Kano State has announced a relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed following a protest against bad governance that escalated into the looting of public and private property. The State’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Bar. Isa Dederi, communicated this change in an audio message on behalf of the government. The curfew has been relaxed from 12 noon to 5 pm today.
Purpose of the Relaxation
The temporary relaxation is designed to allow Muslims to attend Friday prayers. After prayers are concluded, the curfew will resume, and residents are expected to return to their homes by 5 pm.
Background of the Curfew
The curfew was implemented in response to escalating violence during the protest, which saw widespread looting and property destruction. Instances of robbery at private residences also occurred, prompting the state government to enforce the curfew to restore order
