Nigerian music superstars KCee and Flavour have reignited a social media rivalry of some sort, peruzzing fans. It all started when Flavour updated his official X page and was apparently seen taking shots at KCee as a “copycat” after KCee had just announced his newest single, Netfliss. Observant fans didn’t find the title similar to just anything but eerily very similar in sound to Flavour’s trending song Doings, featuring Phyno.
Although Flavour didn’t name anyone, KCee seemed quick to catch the drift. Two days later, the Ojapiano hitmaker went on his own X page and responded with a series of tweets that cut like a knife. He denied Flavour’s claim, citing that he’s “not on the same level” as his colleague, and advised Flavour to “pick his battles wisely.” KCee didn’t stop there; he felt that Flavour was “gatekeeping” Igbo culture and made it known that he has no apologies for representing his culture in his own way.
This back-and-forth has fired up debates by fans on originality, cultural expression, and the dynamics of rivalry in the Nigerian music scene.
