Swedish authorities opened an investigation into an alleged rape at Stockholm hotel, media speculation pointing at Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe; no formal charges filed, but the young French forward has denied a rape claim “in total”.
Sweden’s Prosecution Authority said a criminal complaint has been filed but no suspects were named. The biggest Swedish newspapers, Aftonbladet and Expressen, and also public broadcaster SVT, identified Mbappe as the man under investigation after his recent trip to Scandinavia. Reports said police have seized clothes for analysis but that he remains merely “reasonably suspected” and no-one has been arrested.
Mbappe took to social media, terming the claim as “FAKE NEWS,” tied the timing with his ongoing legal case over unpaid bonuses against former club Paris Saint-Germain. His representatives rebutted the allegations and termed them “completely false and irresponsible.”
Mbappe’s camp has since threatened to take legal action in order to clear his name by saying: “All necessary legal steps will be taken to re-establish the truth.” The investigation is still ongoing with Swedish authorities yet to provide any other details concerning the case.
