The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has taken legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) due to concerns that they plan to arrest, detain, and charge him after his term ends.

Sanwo-Olu’s attorney, Darlington Ozurumba, told the Federal High Court in Abuja that the EFCC’s actions are against the law and infringe on his basic rights. The governor wants the court to confirm that his rights to personal and family life, property ownership, and freedom of movement are protected by the Constitution.

The EFCC’s lawyer, Hadiza Afegbua, said she hasn’t yet received the court papers. The case has been postponed until November 11.

Sanwo-Olu believes that the EFCC’s threat to investigate, arrest, and detain him is unlawful and an improper use of power. He is asking the court to stop the EFCC from harassing, intimidating, or charging him.

In the supporting documents, it is claimed that the EFCC is also planning to arrest his assistants and family members.
