Barcelona wunderkind Lamine Yamal has been officially given the club’s iconic number 10 shirt, that was last worn by Lionel Messi, going even further in establishing himself as a rising star at Camp Nou.
“Messi made his path and I will make mine,” Yamal stated at a club event held at the Spotify Camp Nou shop. “I’ll give my best and try to satisfy Barca fans.”
The footballer of 18 years from La Masia, who was instrumental in Barcelona winning a domestic treble last season, also extended his old contract in May that binds him to the club till 2031. Yamal is no stranger to the first team having made over 100 appearances and netted 25 goals since his debut at 15 in 2023.
Following the steps of Messi, Yamal has already been wearing numbers 41, 27, and 19—now the young player takes the most significant sportswear of the club.
“Barca is my life,” he continued. “I’ve been here since I was seven. The Champions League with Barca and the World Cup with Spain are what I dream of, to be won.”
Furthermore, Yamal made a statement about the recent birthday party scandal: “I work for Barca and when I’m not there, I live my life fully. Simple as that.”
With his signing of the No. 10, Yamal can be seen alongside players such as Maradona, Ronaldinho, and Rivaldo, who have worn this number in the past.
