Manchester City are actively looking at options to replace Kevin De Bruyne as the Belgian approaches the end of a stellar 10-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.
De Bruyne leaves the club as one of their all-time greats, but with his contract up this summer and in need of a new challenge after injuries affected him and his form. Manager Pep Guardiola said last week that the decision not to renew the 32-year-old’s contract was made by the club. Among the clubs linked with his signature are Inter Miami.
City have already started a midfield rebuild, bringing in Nico Gonzalez in January, and are contemplating an internal reshuffle — most prominently using Phil Foden in a central playmaking role. External targets are still on the table.
Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White has become a real possibility, according to The Athletic. The 25-year-old has been critical to Forest’s stunning rise this season as they chase a place in the Champions League for the first time. He also became the club’s first England international in almost 30 years.
City are long-time admirers of Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz although the Bundesliga club believe he could stay. Hugo Viana came in as director of football and will work to form the club’s transfer strategy as the club prepares for life after De Bruyne.
