Manchester United have been given the opportunity to secure Spanish full-back prodigy Jorge Salinas as Michael Carrick’s quest for a new left-sided defender intensifies.
The Reds, who are seeking to add quality to the position to provide competition and back-up for injury-prone Luke Shaw, have alternatives in Patrick Dorgu, Harry Amass and Sergio Len.
However, United are prioritising bringing in a more established option following the breakdown in their move for Newcastle United ace Lewis Hall.
Sources close to the club, as relayed by Football Insider, suggest that 19-year-old Salinas has been put on the table by agents looking to facilitate moves for a string of promising young talents.
Transfer News reporter Fabrizio Romano has previously revealed that United are eyeing a number of youngsters who could develop into top players. In November, Romano said on his show: “Manchester United are still in the market. You try younger players who you think can develop into important players for the team.”
The teenager enjoyed a highly successful season with Racing Santander as they secured promotion to LaLiga, and he was also influential in Spain’s U19 European Championship-winning side that lifted silverware in the summer.
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are thought to have been sniffing around the potential transfer, but United could now join them in a race to sign the emerging full-back, who would need to be deemed capable of slotting straight into English top-tier football.
