Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Njoku has thrown her weight behind her colleague, Regina Daniels, after the latter opened up about getting married at the tender age of 17.
Regina had recently sparked reactions online after sharing that she once engaged in drug use because her husband, billionaire politician Ned Nwoko, wanted her to.
In her reflection, she questioned whether she was already involved in drugs at the time of her marriage, which she revealed happened when she was still a teenager.

In response, Mary Njoku took to Instagram to express compassion for Regina, pointing out how most people at 17 are still trying to navigate basic life lessons. She reminisced on her own teenage years, saying that at that age, she was still learning fundamental hygiene habits, adding that expecting perfection from a 17-year-old is unrealistic.
“She was 17. A teenager. At that age, I was still figuring out personal hygiene. Some 17-year-old boys are still learning to wipe their asses. But now we expect perfection from her because she’s in the spotlight?” Mary wrote.
The Iroko TV co-founder also condemned the tendency of social media users to dig up people’s pasts to shame them. She emphasized the importance of showing empathy to those who speak out about their struggles rather than waiting until tragedy strikes.
“Let’s stop digging up people’s pasts to justify their pain. Let’s normalise helping when someone cries for help, not when it’s too late,” she concluded.
