Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, known in the music scene as Mr P, has unveiled plans for a new project that will breathe fresh life into some of Psquare’s iconic hits.
Speaking in a recent interview, Mr P revealed that he’s working on a project titled Refix, an Extended Play (EP) in which he will reinterpret several of the duo’s classic songs using his personal style and sound.
Psquare, once a household name in African pop music, was made up of twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye. The group disbanded in 2017 and, despite a reunion in 2021, tensions re-emerged in 2024. Last year, Paul accused Peter of playing a role in his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), a claim Peter firmly denied. He instead accused their elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, of misappropriating large sums from their joint finances.
Addressing his new solo effort, Mr P explained that the Refix project is fully legal, as he shares ownership of the original Psquare catalog. He clarified that he’s not remixing the songs but giving them a personal touch—how he would have arranged them if working independently at the time.
“This project is about reimagining songs I originally worked on. You can’t steal what you helped create,” he said, assuring fans that the EP will be released before the end of 2025.
He also touched on life as a solo artist, expressing that working independently has allowed him greater freedom to showcase his creativity without compromise.
“There’s a certain joy that comes with being on your own. At least now, I can fully express myself without feeling held back,” he shared.
Peter encouraged fans to accept the reality of their separation, noting that efforts to reconcile haven’t yielded positive results. “We gave it another shot, but it just didn’t work. We’re all choosing to move forward now.”
He acknowledged that not everyone may support his direction but emphasized that he’s staying true to himself.
