Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard has seemingly suffered an ankle injury during his international match for Norway in a 2-1 win against Austria in the UEFA Nations League on Monday. Midfielder Odegaard, 25, was replaced in the second half after he went to ground in a collision with Christoph Baumgartner of Austria, and received treatment for several minutes.
Norway manager Stale Solbakken said: “It looked bad in the dressing room. He had no chance to continue, and it was confirmed as an ankle sprain.”
The team doctor, Ola Sand, also said that Odegaard was stable but could be sent for further tests: “He’s doing quite well, but ankle sprains can be tricky. We may do an MRI tomorrow to assess the damage.”
Currently second in their group, Norway face off against Slovenia on October 10. Should it be serious, the injury could rule Odegaard out of some vital fixtures for Arsenal, including matches against Tottenham, Atalanta, and Manchester City.
That would be an injury blow for Arsenal because Odegaard has been an influential part of the club’s early-season form. The extent of the damage will be closely watched as Arsenal attempt to navigate a complicated period ahead.
