The People’s Democratic Party has lost one of its most prominent figures, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, but many are still asking—why now?
Atiku Quits PDP Without Looking Back
In a resignation letter dated July 14, 2025, Atiku informed the PDP chairman of Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State that he was leaving the party with immediate effect. He cited “irreconcilable differences” and claimed that the PDP had derailed from the ideals on which it was built.
“It is with a heavy heart that I resign, recognizing the irreconcilable differences that have emerged,” Atiku wrote.
He also thanked the party for giving him a platform to serve Nigeria as Vice President and presidential candidate. Still, it was clear that his patience with the PDP had finally run out.
Founding Father Walks Out
This isn’t just any politician jumping ship. Atiku was one of the founding members of the PDP. He wasn’t only present at the beginning, he helped shape it. That’s what makes this resignation feel like a thunderbolt.
“As a founding father of this esteemed party, it is indeed heartbreaking for me to make this decision,” he said.
But then again, even founding fathers have limits.
PDP in Trouble or Just Another Chapter?
PDP losing Atiku right now raises questions and whispers. Why did he wait until mid-2025? Is this the beginning of a new political move?
Political observers believe this could be the start of something much bigger. With Atiku gone, will others follow? Or is this his way of quietly clearing the path for yet another shot at power from a different party?
Nigerians Deserve an Answer
PDP losing Atiku now tells us one thing: something has gone terribly wrong in the party. When a man who helped build the house decides to walk away, maybe it’s because the roof is already collapsing or he’s seen the cracks no one else is paying attention to.
And while Atiku hasn’t said what his next political step is, one thing is very sure, he’s not done yet.
