Peter Obi Quits Presidential Race, Decamps from PDP

In a move that is taking the internet by storm, former presidential aspirant Mr. Peter Obi has resigned from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and officially put aside his ambition to become one of the presidential candidates in the upcoming 2023 elections. This action has made Mr. Obi the only one out of the current 15 aspirants vying for the ticket under the PDP umbrella to pull out of the race. Instead, according to a source close to Mr. Obi, he seems to have chosen to pitch his tent with another; the Labour Party (LP).

The politician made his resignation known in a letter he addressed to the National Chairman of PDP where he thanked the party for the opportunity to aid in their nation-building efforts and made allusions to certain developments within the party which he said made it impossible to continue his ambitions with them.

These claims may have some merit to them as several sources have cited as saying that Obi was under a lot of pressure to drop his PDP membership and join another party. Others, though, have contradicted this theory, stating that even though other aspirants from the South-Eastern region had agreed to work for him, his chances of nabbing a ticket were quite low. Regardless more than a few people have been saddened by the development and perceived loss of someone many regarded as “the third force Nigerians had been waiting for.”
