Commercial fuel stations in and around the Katsina urban districts have raised the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit by N60.
It was discovered that fuel at NNPC mega stations costs N665, while other fuel stations that previously sold for N830 naira now sell for N900.
Most petrol stations in the area were sealed, prompting some locals to use government-approved NNPC mega stations.
Some motorists, Jamilu Ahmed and Suade Malik, while speaking with our correspondent, ascribed the spike to the hardship Nigerians are experiencing.
What they’re saying
“If not, I can’t be here though there is no long queue but the pumps are the same as the private stations(sic),” Ahmed said
Malik lamented, “I have things to do but had to queue for fuel.” Where I usually acquire my petrol, they have raised the price from N830 to N900.Planning is necessary in Nigeria’s current circumstances.
“Based on the NNPC’s N665 naira per litre, I saved myself N235.
“For example, my automobile uses 60 gallons of fuel; if you do the maths, I literally saved N14,100.”
Bottom Line
The closure of many petrol stations has likely contributed to the price increase, as reduced supply drives up demand at the remaining open stations.
This can lead to longer queues and increased frustration among motorists, as seen in the accounts of Jamilu Ahmed and Suade Malik. The situation underscores the importance of ensuring consistent fuel supply to prevent market disruptions that lead to price hikes.
