The Imo State Police Command has encouraged residents in the state to ignore the unlawful sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and move about their respective businesses without fear of assault or attack.
The police urged residents to go out and carry out their normal business activities, reiterating their earlier stance on the sit-at-home directive.
CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, the Commissioner Of Police, for the Imo State Command, had made the announcement on Sunday while briefing news men at the command headquarters in Owerri, Imo State.
“Adequate security measures have been arranged to prevent any breach of peace, Anyone found violating the peace of the state will be made to face the full wrath of the law.” CP Barde had said.
This is progress, and one only hopes that the Imo state government will duly follow up on its assurances, and provide adequate security for the residents.
Several residents in the south-east region have grown tired of the protracted sit-home- directive since it began in 2021. Their state governments had before now, appeared to be powerless in the face of the IPOB members who had gone about killing anyone found disobeying their unlawful order.
