Nigerian controversial singer, Portable, was arrested by the Kwara State Police Command on Saturday, following allegations made by fellow musician Saheed Osupa. The ‘Zazoo Zeh’ hitmaker faces accusations of criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, and character assassination.
Osupa had filed a petition against Portable, claiming that the singer used derogatory language that could potentially incite violence and tarnish his reputation.
Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the police spokesperson, stated on Sunday that Portable had been transferred to Ilorin for further investigation. The police also confirmed that his statement was recorded in the presence of legal representatives from both sides, and he remains in custody as he awaits court proceedings.
“The Kwara State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that following a petition received from one Mr. Okunola Saheed, popularly known as ‘Osupa,’ against Mr. Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, also known in the entertainment industry as ‘Portable,’” the statement reads.
“Police detectives of Kwara Command have taken lawful steps in line with due process to investigate the allegations. The petition borders on serious allegations, including criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and the use of abusive and insulting words.”
The police further explained that a valid arrest warrant was issued by a Magistrate Court in Ilorin, enabling operatives to apprehend Portable in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at around 7:25 PM. He was promptly brought to Ilorin for further investigation.
The ongoing feud between the two artists dates back to last month when Portable’s song was removed from major platforms like Apple Music and Spotify over a copyright dispute. Portable had allegedly used a phrase linked to Osupa’s style, prompting Osupa’s team to file a complaint.
In response, Portable publicly insulted Osupa, calling him “big for nothing,” which led to significant backlash on social media. Eventually, Portable apologized, attributing his actions to his temper.
Portable is currently in custody as investigations continue, and both parties are expected to proceed with court proceedings.
