An American gallery is facing brand new backlash for permitting, reality star and business mogul, Kim Kardashian to wear the legendary Marilyn Monroe gown, after new images resurfaced online, revealing more ruin to it. The legendary dress, which Kim wore to this year’s Met Gala held in May, has now been stretchier than it normally is and has some missing crystals, according to Marilyn Monroe historians. It has also been revealed that the legendary gown was at present showing signs of tearing in the nearest future.
The latest owner, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, is facing backlash for failing to carefully care for the fragile gown. Famous late actress Marilyn Monroe, wore it when she attended the Birthday bash of President Kennedy in 1962 and sang the Happy Birthday song to him. Meanwhile, a curator by name of Scott Fortner, who has curated his collection of Marilyn Monroe paraphernalia, posted images on social media revealing the significant damage done after Kim Kardashian wore the dress.
Ripley’s paid a whopping $4.8m (£3.9m) in 2016 for the legendary dress, setting a Guinness World Record for the most expensive dress sold at auction. The museum reckons the dress to be worth over $10m, currently. Beaded with over 6,000 hand-sewn crystals, the gown was crafted by reputed French costume designer Jean Louis. It was a tight fit, that late actress, Marilyn Monroe allegedly had to be sewn into it.
Kim Kardashian wore it on the red carpet for the Met and then changed into an identical for the remainder of the night. The TV star paired it with a fur stole to conceal the back of the dress because the zipper wouldn’t budge and go all the way. She had reported beforehand that she wore the said controversial dress for only a couple of minutes and did not sit down while in the gown. The fashion entrepreneur had also confessed to losing almost 17 pounds to fit into the legendary gown. Fashion legend, Bob Mackie had declared that the dress shouldn’t have been worn by anyone at all.
