Top-notch music stars, Rema and Davido are the biggest winners at the 2023 Trace Awards, which held in Kigali, Rwanda, on Saturday, October 2021.

The Trace Awards is a new awards franchise established by Trace, a global TV and multimedia platform.

The aim of the awards is to recognize African and Afro-influenced musicians from Africa and all around the African diasporas.

Rema had clinched two awards: He won in the category of song of the year– for his global smash “Calm Down”– and best global African artist (in a tie with Nomcebo). Note that a remix of “Calm Down” with Selena Gomez had reached Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Davido on his part had also won two awards: in the category of best male and best collaboration for his song: “Unavailable”. He had collaborated with Musa Keys to produce the song

Burna boy had also shined at the event as he won in the category for the album of the year for Love Damini.

The Trace Awards had included performances by about 50 Africa and Afro-inspired artists from around the globe. Some of the artistes included: Davido, Yemi Alade, Mr Eazi and Diamond Platnumz, to mention a few.

In addition to the competitive categories, Awards had been presented in three categories and no nominees were announced.

They awards included: a lifetime achievement award to 2Face (now 2baba) (Nigeria), a Change Maker award to Mr Eazi (Nigeria) and the aforementioned best Global African artist award to Rema and Nomcebo respectively.
