The All Progressives Congress branch in Rivers State has appealed the judgment of the Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja which upheld the election of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, in a petition brought by the Governorship candidate of the APC, Patrick Tonye-Cole.
The three-man panel of the tribunal had in their judgment, revoked the petition of Tonye-Cole for lacking in merits. The panel had further said that he lacked the power to independently challenge the victory of Governor Fubara without his political party backing him up, amongst others reasons.
Darlington Nwauju, the State Publicity Secretary of APC, had in an interview with Daily Post confirmed that Tonye-Cole was headed for the Appeal Court to challenge the judgement of the tribunal.
He had said:
“We pray and hope that the Court of Appeal and indeed the judiciary will be able to give justice both to the people of Rivers State and to the memory of all those who were murdered for their political beliefs and for exercising their franchise, as well as for supporting the APC in Rivers State.
We hope to get justice from the court and as a law abiding political party, we will always respect the decisions of the court.”
