Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has strongly rejected reports that she apologized to the Senate, calling the claims false and misleading. The Kogi Central senator, in a statement on Monday, insisted that she never apologized and would not be pressured into silence despite growing political attacks against her.

“I, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stand firm in my resolve to never apologize for speaking my truth,” she declared. “The desperation to silence me is palpable, but I will not be intimidated.

The senator also accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of abusing his position, insisting that she remains committed to exposing corruption and demanding accountability.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Faces Recall Threat Amid Senate Controversy

The recall process against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has gained momentum as constituents from Kogi Central have submitted a formal petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding her removal from office.

The petition, presented by Charity Ijese on behalf of the constituents, was received at INEC headquarters on Monday, March 24, 2025. Titled “Constituents’ Petition for the Recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Grounds of Loss of Confidence,” the document claims that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has failed in her representation and no longer has the people’s trust.

Petitioners argue that while she secured her Senate position through a court ruling in October 2023, her leadership has been disappointing, and they believe her tenure should be cut short.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Escalates Battle to International Stage

Despite her six-month suspension from the Senate for alleged violations of Senate rules, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has taken her fight beyond Nigeria, bringing her case before the United Nations Inter-Parliamentary Conference in New York.

At the global event, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of victimization, sexual harassment, and abuse of office.

“I will continue to fight for justice and accountability, no matter the cost,” Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan stated, vowing to challenge what she describes as a politically motivated suspension.

While supporters of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan see her stance as courageous, some persons argue that she is merely playing the victim to gain sympathy and avoid removal from office.

With her Senate seat under threat, and her refusing to apologise to the senate, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan continues to fight for her political survival, but the recall petition and international accusations have only intensified the controversy surrounding her tenure.
