Manchester United manager Michael Carrick praised Benjamin Sesko after the substitute scored the only goal, sealing a 1-0 win against Everton in the Premier League on Monday night.
Sesko hasn’t started any of Carrick’s six games so far, but he’s turned into United’s go-to player off the bench. The 22-year-old has found the net in three of his last four games, scoring a late winner against Fulham and grabbing an equaliser against West Ham.
At the Hill Dickinson Stadium, he showed once again that he could make a big difference. The winning goal showed what United’s summer investment could do, as Matheus Cunha freed Bryan Mbeumo, who then passed to Sesko. Sesko finished it calmly, scoring his sixth goal in seven games since Ruben Amorim left in January.
This result pushes United into the Premier League’s top four, putting them three points ahead of Liverpool and Chelsea in the fight for Champions League spots.
Carrick also gave credit to goalkeeper Senne Lammens, whose important saves played a big part in keeping a third clean sheet in six games. Carrick said, “Senne really stood out.”You want a goalkeeper who stays calm under pressure, and he definitely fits that description. Since Carrick took over, United’s defense has really tightened up. They’ve picked up five wins and a draw, giving them a nice boost as the season heads toward the finish.
