World number one Jannik Sinner showed complete dominance against Alexander Zverev, winning 6-1, 6-2 to capture the Madrid Open title for the first time on Sunday.
The Italian had an impressive run of wins, extended to 23 matches, and clinched a record-breaking fifth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 title in very commanding style. Besides this giant achievement, Sinner also made an elite list alongside Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic as the only players to win at least four titles at this level in succession.

The young Italian barely looked back as he gained the first break of the match and quickly went 5-0 up in the first set. On the tails of the previous break, Zverev responded briefly, but Sinner, still the top-seeded player, finished the set without any trouble and didn’t lose a step going into the next one.
Quickly after the break, Zverev did get a little better, but he was a bit overwhelmed by Sinner’s uninterrupted hitting and power. Sinner was closing in on the victory with two more breaks of serve and then just a few points, he completed the title with a perfect service game.
In the end, Sinner didn’t really entertain the talk about being the next big thing in tennis. Instead, he said that he is only focused on himself and taking one step at a time in his career, something he is doing while gradually picking up speed for the French Open.
