Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington was arrested in Lagos on Saturday, following a petition by his colleague Burna Boy for alleged defamation and cyberstalking. In the viral video, Darlington questioned the authenticity of Burna Boy’s Grammy win, his association with US rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, among many illicit legal charges filed against him. The arrest made sure he was taken to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju also confirmed the arrest, adding that Darlington was arrested over the weekend before being released on Tuesday when he met his bail conditions. Series of updates on his X handle disclosed that the rapper was released after days of police detention.
Adeyanju thanked those who helped release Darlington and hailed the police for showing professionalism. He named influential persons, such as #YeleSowore and senior lawyer #stanalieke, for their contributions in the release of the rapper.
