Style Highlight of the Week: Selena Gomez
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

From her early Disney days, on the set of Wizards of Waverly place when her style of dressing in jeans, colorful tops and mini-dresses were classified as quirky and fun (all attributes understandable for her age), Selena Gomez has evolved into a mature, sophisticated woman, with a more confident style. And in light of her recently acquired billionaire status, there has never been a time to spotlight this multi-talented woman.

The Only Murders in the Building actress was recently spotted at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of her latest movie, Emilia Perez where she dazzled everyone with her unique black dress that featured spaghetti straps, a peplum bodice and a corsage-like design at the center-top of the gown. Her look was a unique blend of nostalgic fashion as she brought back classical Y2K elements to the red carpet.

To fully appreciate how Selena Gomez’s style has matured before our eyes – especially as she grew up on television–, this article will enlighten you on just how far her style has come.

Going back in time…

– Disney Years

Like earlier highlighted in this article, Selena Gomez’s style during her Disney era was characterized by a youthful, casual, but trendy look that really resonated with her young audience. Some of the key elements of her style during that period were: minimal makeup, bright patterns and colors and casual, comfortable attire.

While playing as Alex Russo on the Wizards of Waverly Place, her style mostly consisted of graphic tee-shirts, vests, scarves and other such accessories. She often wore boots and sneakers, which complemented her casual and practical style.

Still with Disney studios, the actress’s style slowly became more glamorous, slowly cementing her upcoming pop star status while still keeping it age appropriate.

For the music videos and red carpet events in those early years, she was often dressed in sparkly and shimmery outfits, and elegant evening gowns.

– Post Disney

As she transitioned from the wholesome, Disney actress and singer, Selena Gomez’s style took bolder steps fashion wise as she took on more mature roles. She’d wear leather jackets and statement accessories.

For her red carpet looks, she wore more high fashion, often being photographed in Valentino, Rodarte and Versace gowns.

While she focused majorly on her music career, she refined what we’ve come to know today as her personal style, wearing sleek gowns, tailored suits and designer clothes. She’d switch up her style, sometimes dying her hair for a holder effect while still keeping it classy. From the pictures seen from that time, she wasn’t afraid to try out colors and patterns.

Revival and Rare Beauty Years

Since launching her renowned beauty brand, Rare Beauty, Selena’s style has toed the path of wearing elegant and timeless pieces, often opting for classic cuts, neutral tones, and minimalistic designs. Most often, her fashion choices now reflect her personal journey and advocacy for mental health. She often chooses outfits that are not only stylish but also comfortable and empowering, staying true to her authentic self.

Selena Gomez’s style evolution is a testament to her extensive versatility and growth. From her humble Disney days to becoming a global fashion icon, she has continuously reinvented herself while managing to stay true to her unique sense of style – a character that has resonated with many of her fans.

What era of hers did you love more?
