The Taraba State Government has disclosed plans to reintroduce teaching history as a subject in the basic education and secondary school curriculum across the schools in the state.
Agbu Kefas, the state governor made this announcement when he hosted news reporters to a dinner in Jalingo on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that history was removed from the primary and secondary education curriculum in the 2009/2010 academic session.
Recall that in November 2022, the Federal Government reintroduced history as a stand-alone course in the basic education curriculum in Nigeria, after it was abolished 13 years before.
In Governor Kefas statement,
“History, he has a connection with the development of any society. No society can truly develop without its citizens having an excellent knowledge of their history.”“This is why we will launch teaching history studies in the primary and secondary schools in the state to ensure a solid foundation for accelerated development of our pupils/students,” he said.
The governor additionally said that in no distance time, primary school teachers in the state would only be first-degree holders while secondary school teachers must have a minimum of Masters degree to boost the quality of education in the state.
