Telecom Subscribers Association Urges NCC To Approve 10% Tariff Hike For Telcos

The National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS) has called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to allow a small 10% increase in the prices that telecom companies charge. This is to help them deal with the growing costs of running their businesses.

Adeolu Ogunbanjo, the National President of NATCOMS, shared this information in a statement to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He said that raising the prices is important for telecom companies to keep working and to offer better service.

“The current economic situation is really affecting telecom companies, so it’s important for everyone involved to find a fair solution,” Ogunbanjo mentioned. He explained that telecom companies are struggling because the costs of the things they need to run their networks are going up.

He mentioned that telecom companies are facing more financial pressure because the things they need to run their networks are getting more expensive.

“Even though a 10% increase in prices might seem big to customers, it’s important for making telecom services better in Nigeria,” Ogunbanjo said.

Ogunbanjo also didn’t agree with the idea of telecom companies reducing service, comparing it to cutting back on electricity and saying it would badly affect important areas like banking, education, and healthcare.

“Once the NCC allows a small increase of 10%, they must use it to really improve services for their customers,” Ogunbanjo emphasised.

NATCOMS calls for tariff hike because the telecom industry is having money problems, with economist Bismarck Rewane saying the sector is like it’s in the “intensive care unit.”
