The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has stated that there is no law, currently enacted, that mandates the apex bank to provide dollars to foreign airlines operating in the country.

While making his opinion known after a monetary policy committee’s meeting at the CBN headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, September 27, Emefiele declared that while the CBN was determined to help airlines clear the forex backlog, the bilateral air services agreement -BASA, did not direct foreign airlines to repatriate all their dollar earnings out of the country.

The CBN Governor, Emefiele, had also asked countries where foreign airlines were domiciled to provide equal landing slots to Nigerian airlines to prevent dollar repartition issues, as was in line with the bilateral air services agreement -BASA.
