President Bola Tinubu has once again stated that his government is dedicated to focusing on the well-being of the poor and vulnerable as economic reforms progress. During a meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Wednesday, Tinubu spoke with the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, on the side of the G20 Leaders’ Summit. He highlighted the importance of social support systems in helping people cope with the difficulties caused by these changes.
The President recognized the challenges on Nigerians’ purchasing power, but he assured that steps to ease these difficulties remain a top priority.
Tinubu also emphasised the crucial role of education in fighting hunger and poverty, pointing out the large number of children not attending school. “Education is a way to escape hunger and poverty. We are creating programs to keep children in school and will need your help with these efforts,” he told the IMF leader.
Tinubu praised Georgieva for her guidance and help, and asked for more support from international organisations to help Nigeria’s economy become more stable and grow in a healthy way.
Georgieva, in return, complimented the Tinubu government’s changes and the good results they’ve seen so far. She promised that the IMF will keep helping Nigeria with its plans to make the economy stronger and support social programs. She said these programs are great for helping people who need it most and offered to give advice on how Nigeria can use loans better.
