The United States’ Secret Service has debunked claims of it refusing Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, additional security for his campaign on that fated Saturday when he was shot at.
Anthony Guglielmi, the Chief spokesman of the agency had instead said that the secret service had added more protective resources to Trump’s campaign.
On Saturday, July 13, 20-year-old Thomas Mathew Crooks shot at Trump, in an attempt to assassinate him.
Trump however, survived this assassination attempt and only sustained an injury in his ear, but Crooks was killed at the scene in Butler, Pennsylvania.
After the assassination attempt, reports brought to light, the claims that the agency had denied the Trump campaign’s requests for additional protection.
What They’re Saying
Guglielmi had said in a statement: “There is an untrue assertion that a member of the former President’s team requested additional security resources & that those were rebuffed.
“This is absolutely false. In fact, we added protective resources & technology & capabilities as part of the increased campaign travel tempo.”
