Two lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Edo State House of Assembly have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The lawmakers, Eugene Inegbeboh from Igueben Constituency and Andrew Uzamere from Ovia II Constituency, made their move on Friday.
With their defection, the PDP has now lost 11 of its original 15 seats in the Assembly, leaving it with just four members. Meanwhile, the APC’s majority has increased to 20 members.
APC Welcomes Edo Lawmakers Who Defected from PDP
While receiving the two defectors at the APC State Secretariat in Benin, the State Chairman of the APC, Jarrett Tenebe, said their defection reflected the growing political consciousness across Edo State.
“This is not about politics alone. It’s about accountability, inclusion, and the vision that drives the APC,” Tenebe said.
He added that in the APC, there are no old or new members.
“We are one family. The same honour and expectations given to long-standing members are extended to newcomers too,” Tenebe declared.
Defection Seen as a Boost for APC in Edo
The APC Chairman described the lawmakers’ defection as a “reinforcement” of the party’s grassroots strength.
“Your coming is a reinforcement of what we stand for. We are welcoming two proven leaders whose experience will further enrich our party’s vision and grassroots reach,” he said.
Tenebe urged all Edo people to rally behind the state governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to help him implement people-centred programmes.
Defected PDP Lawmakers Pledge Loyalty to APC
Both lawmakers expressed gratitude for the warm reception given to them by the APC leadership. They promised to contribute meaningfully to the party’s progress in the state.
