Vítor Pereira picked up his second win in charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers as they defeated Manchester United 2-0 to end a four-match losing streak at Molineux. With the defeat, Manchester United find themselves stuck in 14th place in the Premier League, now closer to the relegation zone than the top four.
The first half was really tight, with both teams barely finding a way to open the scoring. Diogo Dalot and Gonçalo Guedes shot from distance, while Jørgen Strand Larsen and Lisandro Martínez were dangerous with their headers. Matheus Cunha’s footwork was really impressive, but overall, quality in the attacking areas was very low.
Solidity in defence was somewhat a surprise, given that only Southampton had let in more home goals this season than Wolves coming into this one. But Manchester United’s inability to find the net persisted – a sixth scoreless game in the league this season. Things got even worse for the Red Devils when Bruno Fernandes was given a second yellow for a late challenge on Nélson Semedo early in the second half, reducing them to 10 men.
Wolves capitalized on their numerical advantage as an inswinging corner from Matheus Cunha evaded everybody, including United’s keeper André Onana. Eventually, Hwang Hee-chan sealed the win deep in injury time on the counter, securing back-to-back clean sheets for Wolves, moving them out of the relegation zone.
