The World Bank plans to give Nigeria three major loan projects for Nigeria in 2025, totaling $1.65 billion. These loans which are currently in the pipeline, will focus on internally displaced persons, education, and nutrition enhancement.

The first project, called Solutions for the Internally Displaced and Host Communities Project, will get $300 million. It is planned to be approved on April 8, 2025, and will focus on finding long-term solutions for people who have been forced to move and the communities that help them, by dealing with their social and economic issues.

The second project, called HOPE for Quality Basic Education for All, will get $553.8 million. It is planned to be approved on March 20, 2025, and will work on improving access to good basic education for everyone in Nigeria.

The third project, called Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria 2.0, is the biggest of the three, with $800 million set aside for it. The World Bank plans to have a meeting to decide on this project by February 20, 2025. This project is about making nutrition better across the whole country.

The total amount of $1.65 billion shows that the World Bank is still strongly supporting Nigeria’s recovery and growth,  particularly in vulnerable sectors requiring urgent intervention.

Also, it was noted that under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria has borrowed $6.95 billion from the World Bank in the last 18 months. This includes a new $500 million loan approved on December 13, 2024, for the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project.

This new loan will help improve how people in rural areas connect with bigger markets, make it easier to get to schools and hospitals, and help people work together better.
