Rapper and entrepreneur Curtis Jackson, best known as 50 Cent, recently said he turned down $3 million offered to him to perform at a rally for the then presidential candidate of the Republicans, Donald Trump, at Madison Square Garden. In an interview with The Breakfast Club, the music mogul revealed he had received a call to perform his iconic hit “Many Men [Wish Death]” for the Trump rally and at this year’s Republican National Convention.
Despite the lucrative offer, 50 Cent said that politics is too serious and with high stakes, polarizing. He echoed a very cautious approach toward political endorsement, concerned that it inevitably receives some form of backlash from all sides, no matter one’s view.
His revelation puts into perspective the pressure well known personalities go through when deciding whether or not to participate in politically controversial events, even with multimillion dollar offers on the table.
