Popular Indian actor Allu Arjun was arrested on Friday after a stampede at a Pushpa 2: The Rule screening in Hyderabad left one woman dead and several others injured, including her young son.
The incident occurred when thousands of fans had gathered to catch a glimpse of the 42-year-old star outside the theatre on December 4. The woman died in her 30s, and her son seriously injured during the chaos that erupted.
The police arrested Arjun on suspicion of negligence, along with seven others, including his security team and theatre staff. Videos showed him speaking calmly with officers at his home before being taken into custody. He was later granted interim bail for four weeks.
Arjun shared his sorrow on social media, saying: “I am deeply heartbroken and stand committed to helping the family through this difficult time.”
This Pushpa series has been a massive success, and Arjun is one of India’s biggest stars, especially in the South.
