Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Others Score Nominations at 2024 BET Awards

The Black Entertainment Television (BET), the organizers of the annual BET Awards have just announced the nominations for the 2024 BET Awards which will air live on Monday, 1 July 2024, at 2:00 am WAT on BET Africa.

In the Nigerian front, the superstars who made a significant impact in the music scene and got nominated include: Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr, Davido, Lojay, Asake, and Seyi Vibes have all received nominations across various music categories.

Tyla, Focalistic, and Tyler ICU are the other Africans who got nominated too.


In Nigeria, Ayra Starr tops the nomination chart with 3 nominations in the categories of Best New Artist, Best International Act, and the ‘BET Her Award’ for her hit single “Commas.”

She is followed closely by Tems, who scored two nominations in the categories for ‘Video Director of the Year’ for directing the music video for her song “Me & U” and for the ‘Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award’.

Burna Boy was also recognized in the categories of the ‘Best Male R&B/Pop Artist’ and ‘Best Male Hip-Hop Artist categories’.

Seyi Vibez meanwhile, is a contender for ‘Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act’, while Asake is nominated for ‘Best International Act’ alongside foremost African artists like Tyla, Aya Nakamura, and Focalistic.

Internationally, Drake is leading the overall nominations for the 2024 BET Awards with seven nominations, followed closely by Nicki Minaj, with six nominations.

These nominations were selected by the BET Voting Academy.
