Cristiano Ronaldo has made history again by becoming the first football player in the world to have a net worth of one billion dollars while still being an active player as per the Bloomberg Billionaire Index.

The footballer’s fortune went up to the sky after he extended his contract with Al Nassr, a club in the Saudi Pro League, for $400 million earlier this year. Besides the tax-free salary, the long-term endorsement deals with Nike and Armani were also pointed as the main reasons for his being on the top list by Bloomberg.

However, Ronaldo, with his multimillion fortune and iconic career, keeps insisting that he still has some more years to go. “People, mostly my family, tell me to stop because I’ve done everything,” he told Canal 11. “I still feel that I’m producing good things and that I’m helping my club and country. Why stop now?”

The five-times Ballon d’Or winner and the top men’s international scorer with 141 goals for Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo, made it possible to add one more award to his collection this week—the Prestige Award at the Portugal Football Globes.

“It’s not an award for the end of my career,” he said. “It’s a recognition of the years of effort and ambition. Competing with the younger generation keeps me motivated. I still love football as much as before.”
