Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno State, recently announced that almost 95% of those who took part in the recent violent protests in Maiduguri were young people below the age of 14. Zulum declared lifting of restriction on movement for all citizens in the state in a radio program.
The governor expressed his dismay by pointing out that many of the young protesters did not have a proper understanding of the things they were doing, suggested that they may have been manipulated by external actors.
Zulum condemned the bandits for taking advantage of the peace rallies and causing turmoil, resulting in the destruction and burning of buildings that are publicly owned, among them hospitals.
He commended the police for stopping an attack on the gas plant, which is the emergency power supply for the Maiduguri. The governor restated his administration’s strategy for upgrading the state, involving public and private participation in roads, health facilities, and schools.
In addition, the governor brought up the importance of the program implemented by his adminstration, which teaches deaf children how to communicate. Governor Zulum also mentioned his plans for the further development of the agriculture sector, more specifically by the means of irrigation technology.
