Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has admitted that he may not be starting a family anytime soon, citing his demanding tour life as a major factor.
Speaking in a fresh interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra in London, the 34-year-old Afrobeats icon confessed that although he hopes to start a family one day, it’s not something he’s prepared to do while still heavily invested in his music career.
“Yeah, but I don’t want to start that on the road. I’m not planning of quitting tours anytime soon, so I don’t know where to now put that [starting a family]; find a middle ground,” Burna Boy said when asked about his thoughts on settling down.
The self-acclaimed African Giant further revealed that his tight schedule has left him with no time to unwind, let alone raise a family.
“I haven’t gone on a holiday since the beginning of my music career,” he shared, adding that the absence of children in his life is one of the reasons he’s never taken a break just for leisure.
Renowned for his energetic stage presence and consistently sold-out concerts across the globe, Burna Boy continues to move from city to city with little downtime. His refusal to ease up on performances, he says, makes it difficult to strike a balance between his personal life and professional obligations.
Despite being one of the most sought-after names in global music, Burna Boy’s recent remarks reflect the trade-offs that come with international success.
