CHANQ 2023: Yusuf Confident Home Eagles Will Turn Tables Against Ghana

Salisu Yusuf, home-based Super Eagles coach has reiterated that he’s very confident that his squad will secure the ticket to participate in the 2023 Africa Nations Championship in Algeria.

If we can recall, the home eagles were thrashed 2-0 by the black Galaxies of Ghana at the first leg of the qualifier last weekend. Both teams are to face each other in the second and final round of the qualifier to hold tomorrow in Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

This is going to be a tough one for the super eagles as they’ll have to score 3 unequalised goals before they can defeat Ghana.

Speaking ahead of the match, Yusuf stated that, they are doing all that is expected to see that they feature in Algeria next year. Several loopholes made them lose to Ghana in the first leg, but it’s already past and he is not going to dwell on it, as they need to focus on tomorrow’s match.

He further added that the lineup is almost the same as the first leg, except that  Sadiq Abubakar will be missing due to the injury he sustained

“What is past is past and that is the case with the match we played in Ghana. Now we are looking forward to a good match on Saturday,” Yusuf stated.

“We are doing all we need to do to achieve our utmost desire to be in Algeria next year. There may have been one or two lapses that caught us on the bad end in Cape Coast but we can’t continue to dwell on that. We want to achieve a good result on Saturday.”

“It is going to be more like 88 to 90 percent of the team we presented in Ghana last Sunday. Remember that Sadiq Abubakar was injured in a moment we thought should have produced a penalty kick for us. He has not recovered fully and so may not feature.”
